The king of PvP shotguns is back, and has a ton of good rolls that you can take advantage of in the Crucible. Get used to seeing this gun about, as it’s definitely as good in its reissued state as it was years ago.

How good is Felwinter’s Lie
First and foremost, this gun is a non-starter in PvE. Its best roll is a very niche Cascade Point + Trench Barrel roll that is massively outclassed by rapid-fire shotguns like Threat Level.
However, in PvP, Felwinter’s Lie is an absolute monster. It’s got the most diverse set of shotgun perks you can ask for, with silly amounts of range in Slideshot and Iron Reach, or your classic fast-swap with Slickdraw and Opening Shot. This gun has tons of possibilities, and the stats package to go with it.
The best alternative to Felwinter’s Lie in PvP is a precision-frame shotgun but with Felwinter’s Lie you get the benefits of both an aggressive and precision shotgun (with it being a ‘shot package’ frame gun), providing the best in-between for any crucible shotgun enjoyer. Felwinter’s Lie is C-Tier for PvE and S-tier for PvP.

Felwinter’s Lie Perks and God Rolls
The Felwinter’s Lie solar shotgun can roll with the following perks:
- Perk 1: Slideshot, Slickdraw, Lone Wolf, Threat Detector, Dual Loader, Heal Clip, Cascade Point.
- Perk 2: Opening Shot, Iron Reach, Closing Time, One-Two Punch, Trench Barrel, Incandescent, Bait and Switch.
- Origin Trait: Skulking Wolf.
Felwinter’s Lie PvE god roll
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Smallbore |
| Magazine | Assault Mag |
| Perk 1 | Cascade Point |
| Perk 2 | Trench Barrel |
| Masterwork | Handling |
If you did decide to use Felwinter’s Lie in PvE, it’d mainly be for dumping a ton of damage into a single target quickly. For this, we’re wanting Assault Mag for the extra fire rate, and Smallbore provides a nice amount of stats.
The first perk column leaves a lot to be desired, with the only real premium PvE perk being Cascade Point. Heal Clip is interesting on a shotgun but takes a lot of ammo, and Dual Loader is mediocre QoL, so Cascade Point is the only option here even if you’re using it for Trench Barrel, One-Two Punch, or Bait and Switch.
With that being said, in the second column, Trench Barrel is the best dump perk for a shotgun. However, One-Two Punch is a good perk to have access to, even if Felwinter’s Lie is a bad applicator of it. You don’t want to be using this as your main One-Two Punch shotgun if possible, but it’s okay as a temporary roll. Bait and Switch is also interesting, in that it does work well with Cascade Point, but it just feels far too niche and difficult to pull off on a shotgun that doesn’t work well with it (Threat Level does the same on a rapid-fire frame).
Felwinter’s Lie PvP god roll
| PvP Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Rifled Barrel |
| Magazine | Accurized Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Slideshot (also good: Slickdraw, Threat Detector) |
| Perk 2 | Iron Reach (also good: Opening Shot, Closing Time) |
| Masterwork | Range |
With this iteration of Felwinter’s Lie, the aim is to be able to utilise it from a much further effective range than other shotguns, meaning that we want to max out range as much as possible. So, we go with Rifled Barrel and Accurized Rounds here, because of that. However, if you’re wanting a shotgun to just pull out at the last second, Handling is the stat to prioritise (though Range is still good).
In the first column, Slideshot gives an extra 20 range, helping us extend our range all the way up to 100. This is essential if you want to take advantage of Iron Reach, but Slickdraw and Threat Detector are also very strong perks if you don’t.
The second column has two great options in Iron Reach and Opening Shot, with Closing Time being a close third. Iron Reach has more range than Opening Shot (with Opening Shot providing 15 range to only your first shot, and Iron Reach providing 20 range to every shot), however the accuracy benefits of Opening Shot are a definite draw towards it.
Again, both of these are very dependent on what you want from your Felwinter’s Lie; just the effective range increase is definitely potent in comparison to other shotguns in the Crucible.
