Season of the Blood (S2) overhauled the entire endgame system with the introduction of 5 new endgame bosses, each with a specific loot table allowing you to finally be able to target farm some of the strongest items in the game.
This guide covers Varshan’s loot table and how to summon it.
How to Summon Varshan: Grotesque Debtors
Available in World Tier 3 and 4, Echoes of Varshan requires players to defeat Grotesque Debtors while completing Whispers of the Dead for a chance to receive parts of Varshan’s body:
- Trembling Hand
- Blackened Femur
- Gurgling Head
A proven strategy is to go to the nearest Blood Tide and complete Whispers there. The enemy density will also provide significant XP. Once you have enough parts, including a Malignant Heart if you’re playing on World Tier 4, you can summon Varshan.
Note that turning 10 Whispers at the Tree of Whispers will reward you with a guaranteed body part. You can also craft all body parts at the Alchemist (except the Malignant Heart).

On top of dropping specific Uniques, Varshan can also drop the following items:
- The Flesh-Weld Rod Trophy
- Some of the items required to summon Duriel
Where to find Varshan: Malignant Burrow
Once you’ve gathered all the required materials, you can take them to the Malignant Burrow, located next to the Tree of Whispers. After clearing a couple of short corridors, you’ll arrive at the Malignant Altar, where you can deposit the required items.
As soon as you enter World Tier 3, the Malignant Burrows will appear on your map and mini-map. There are no requirements to enter, but you’ll need the necessary items to summon Varshan.
How to defeat Varshan
All Endgame Bosses have an elemental theme to encourage players to farm the appropriate elemental resist gear. Varshan deals Shadow damage, which means you should increase your Shadow resistance as much as possible. If you can’t reach the 70% Shadow resistance cap through your gear, you can always use a Shadow resistance potion.
To be fair, Varshan is not particularly difficult. I tackled Varshan with a level 65 Sorcerer (granted, a Ball Lightning Sorcerer) and destroyed him without even paying attention to my Shadow resistance. We’ll see if the fight is as “easy” in World Tier 4.
How Endgame Bosses Work
Endgame Bosses are meant to add more goals, things to do, and ways to make our characters more powerful. These Bosses are Blizzard’s response to the harsh criticism that D4 lacks Endgame content. But how will they work?
Endgame Bosses will be available in World Tier 3 and World Tier 4. Each Boss will have specific requirements to summon it, and each will have a pre-defined loot table that will include specific Unique Items and Cosmetics (and Uber Duriel will even have a low chance to drop Uber Uniques!). This guide covers all you need to know about these bosses.
