While we cover Diablo 4’s Uniques in detail here, this guide focuses on the new Uniques released with Season 3.

While Season 1 featured only 6 new Unique items, Season 2 featured 12 new Uniques, double that of Season of the Malignant. That appeared to be the beginning of a good trend, and players expected more than 12 new Uniques this season. Unfortunately, we are left with only six (again) this season.

Are 6 new Uniques per Season acceptable?

There were many complaints regarding the limited number of new Uniques released on Season 1 (only 6), especially compared to the 54 Uniques released at launch. But it was unreasonable to expect much more from the very first Season of a brand-new live-service game. Even Blizzard recognized that Season 1 was developed alongside the base game, meaning that very few resources were actually dedicated to Season of the Malignant compared to the development of the core Diablo 4 experience.

While we will never see as many new Uniques in a single season compared to Diablo 4’s launch, we should definitely expect future seasons to be bigger in terms of content and quantity of items released. Rob Ferguson, Diablo 4’s General Manager, confirmed as much in an interview with Forbes:

From a management of expectations perspective, when we talk about how the launch of Diablo 4 is the beginning, not the end because we have a live service, that’s one of the things people should think about with seasons as well…The reality is, this is our first season that we built while shipping [Diablo 4] at the exact same time…This is the beginning of our seasonal journey in terms of where we can go from here.

And based on what we saw with Season 2, Blizzard was right. Too bad Season 3 isn’t off to a great start so far…
