Unlike their Destiny 1 counterparts, Exotic Class Items in Destiny 2 have proven to be meta-defining.
These Exotics can quickly turn the already strong Prismatic subclasses to 11, but first, you’ll need to unlock and farm them until you find the right roll.
How to Farm Exotic Class Items
To obtain your exotic class item of choice, you’ll first need to unlock and complete the Dual Destiny mission in the Pale Heart destination. 🚨Unless you farm them during Festival of the Lost!
Festival of the Lost 2024
In a completely unexpected move, you can now unlock the coveted Exotic Class Items without having to complete Duality by participating in the Festival of the Lost. All you need is 2,500 Candy and 1 Eerie Engram, both of which can be farmed by wearing a mask and completing activities.
Dual Destiny Mission
This mission forces you to be in a fireteam of two (going in solo or as a trio will not work), and it’s the only way to obtain your first class item. While this requirement has resulted in a fair bit of controversy, finding a friend or teammate on LFG for one run isn’t too hard, nor does it require you to enter a voice chat.
After obtaining the first copy from Dual Destiny, additional exotic class items can be farmed in various ways. If you enjoy the Dual Destiny mission (and have a friend to farm with), replaying the activity will grant another class item each run. Additionally, a weekly challenge (viewable from the Pale Heart map) will grant an additional class item once per week, giving you two for your first run each reset.
Overthrow Chests
The second method of farming these is participating in Overthrow in the Pale Heart. While generic world chests don’t contribute to it, opening Overthrow chests grants an increasing probability of receiving a class item, granting more with higher chest tiers.
Buy them from Xur
The final way of obtaining multiple copies of exotic class items was added with Update 8.5.0.2, released on August 20, 2024. Xur now (sometimes) sells randomly rolled exotic class items for 41 Strange Coins each.
When the offer is available (replaced by an Exotic Cipher offer when it’s not), you can purchase as many class items as you’d like, assuming you have the Strange Coins. Because Strange Coins come from ritual activities, many players will be drawn to this offer since it doesn’t require you to do something specific on the Pale Heart.
🚨 The only requirement is to have unlocked the regular acquisition path through the Dual Destiny mission for each character/class.
Exotic Class Item attunement (coming soon)
To help assist players in farming for the perfect roll, Bungie aims to release an Exotic Class Item attunement feature with Episode 2. While we don’t have too much information on this system just yet, it seems to function similarly to the BRAVE weapon attunement currently available at Zavala.
As seen in the screenshot below, only one perk can be attuned at a time (subject to change). This means you’ll still need to do some extensive farming to get the rolls you want, but the system seems to be a huge step in the right direction.

Why these Exotic Perks?
As explained by Bungie, the plan for Exotic Class items is to include fan favorites as well as perks that align with the Prismatic abilities and Aspects.
Also, Exotic perks were put in the column where they would compound with each other better.
Yo, author. You need to reread your work. You have Ophidian Aspect/Verity Brow showing three times on warlock, Innermost Light/Synthoceps showing three times on titan, and assassin’s cowl/Star Eater Scales showing three times on hunter.
hey bud there are some traits that transfer over all 3 classes aka ophidian, innermost light and sytheoes for examples
“nor does it require you to enter a voice chat.”
Not true. You could probably do this symbol puzzles with text chat and at a push the first set of clock puzzles but for the clock puzzle at the boss encounter the time constraint means you really need to be talking to each other.
