Salvation’s Edge has brought a whole host of excellent weapons, and the Summun Bonum Sword is definitely one of the most unique weapons in the game. We’ll cover how to get it, the god rolls on the Sword, and how good it is against some of its competitors.

How good is Summum Bonum
It is hard to gauge how good Summun Bonum will be in different scenarios as it is the first wave frame Sword to ever be added to Destiny 2. The frame appears to lend itself more to ad-clear rather than DPS, which makes it quite poor, in our opinion. Sacrificing a Heavy Slot for ad clear is a poor choice in most scenarios, and when ad clear is truly needed, a machine gun is generally a much better choice than a Sword. Summun Bonum also doesn’t come with any utility perks like Eager Edge (even if this perk is somewhat built into the frame itself), making it even less appealing
However, for DPS, it does come with some solid perks, so it is yet to be seen whether this Sword can be a top contender for DPS. Options like Relentless Strikes, Chaos Reshaped, Bait and Switch, and Surrounded are all top-tier perks for damage.
Overall, this sword appears to lend itself to ad clear more than DPS, and because an ad-clearing sword is not something you should typically be using, we do not think Summun Bonum is worth chasing.

Blade | Hungry Edge |
Guard | Swordmaster’s Guard |
Perk 1 | Tireless Blade (also good: Relentless Strikes) |
Perk 2 | Chain Reaction or Chaos Reshaped |
Masterwork | Impact |
Hungry Edge is the best all-around pick for our blade here as it doesn’t hurt the Impact stat of the sword, and it also buffs the amount of ammo Summum Bonum can have by a considerable amount. Swordmaster’s Guard is the best Guard thanks to it boosting our heavy attack charge rate.
For our first perk, we need a perk that helps with ammo, so Tireless Blade is the best pick, but Relentless Strikes isn’t too bad either, and could be better when taking down tankier targets like Majors or Ultras.
For perk 2, Chain Reaction allows us to massively lean into the add-clearing fantasy of the weapon by creating explosions from the wave attack. However, Chaos Reshaped can make this sword deal solid damage, and when paired with Tireless Blade, it can allow us to take on tanky targets and bring them down, thanks to the damage bonus provided. This is all happening while healing every so often at x2 stacks.

Blade | Jagged Edge |
Guard | Swordmaster’s Guard |
Perk 1 | Relentless Strikes |
Perk 2 | Bait and Switch or Chaos Reshaped (also good: Surrounded) |
Masterwork | Impact |
Jagged Edge is the best pick for our Blade as it increases the Sword’s impact by a substantial amount. Swordmaster’s Guard is, as per usual, the best option for the Guard, thanks to it boosting the Sword’s recovery rate.
Relentless Strikes is the best pick for perk 1 as it helps the total damage of the sword by refunding ammo when continuously hitting a boss. Perk 2 has a lot of choices. Bait and Switch is very easy to activate, but Chaos Reshaped and Surrounded are higher damage buffs. If you can activate Surrounded, then this will be the best pick, but on average, Bait and Switch or Chaos Reshaped will be easier to consistently use.
How to get Summum Bonum
Summun Bonum comes from the Salvation’s Edge Raid and drops from three encounters: Herald of Finality, Verity, and The Witness. Out of these encounters, the Herald of Finality or The Witness are best for farming. The Witness can be a faster fight if your team is optimal, but Herald of Finality might be a bit easier.
On top of this, players can interact with the Raid cache after defeating The Witness in order to spend 20 Spoils of Conquest to buy a Summun Bonum (provided they have already obtained one naturally). The first weekly purchase will also be a guaranteed red-border version, meaning you can make some progress toward obtaining the pattern for Summun Bonum each week. We cover the entire Salvation Edge’s loot table here.
It also has a chance to drop from the secret chests (including deepsight versions from the puzzle chest) or from completing the Excision Mission with a Memory of The Witness item. And, as always, you can buy one from the vendor chest.
