How good is Speleologist
Machine guns have cemented a solid spot in the meta for both PvE and PvP, and Speleologist falls into the pack nicely.
With a nice combination of Solar synergy and general strength, Speleologist is a great option for PvE-goers who don’t want to farm Trials or Duality for potential alternatives. While it doesn’t contain anything meta-defining, falling into a group of intrinsically powerful weapons (machine guns, as a whole) isn’t a bad thing.
Speleologist falls into a similar category in The Crucible. It can pick up quick and easy kills if you get your hands on some heavy ammo, but nothing stands out compared to its competition. Speleologist is A-Tier in PvE and B-Tier in PvP.
Best alternatives:
Fixed Odds | Machine Gun | Heavy | Solar | Duality Dungeon | Incandescent | |
Unwavering Duty | Machine Gun | Heavy | Solar | Trials of Osiris | Incandescent |

Speleologist PvE god rolls
PvE Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Magazine | Appended Mag |
Perk 1 | Enlightened Action (also good: Envious Assassin) |
Perk 2 | Incandescent (also good: One for All) |
Masterwork | Stability |
We’ll begin with Fluted Barrel, Appended Mag, and a stability masterwork for increased handling, stability, and magazine capacity.
From there, Enlightened Action or Envious Assassin paired with Incandescent is our pick for general play, even if you aren’t using a Solar build (Incandescent/Scorch is a potent enough debuff on its own). However, if you’re looking for a more damage-centric option, One for All is solid as well, especially when combined with Stats for All in the first column.
Recommended Loadout: Midnight Coup, Still Hunt, Speleologist.
Speleologist PvP god rolls
PvE Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Polygonal Rifling |
Magazine | Steady Rounds |
Perk 1 | Slideways (also good: Firmly Planted) |
Perk 2 | Target Lock (also good: Incandescent) |
Masterwork | Stability |
For The Crucible, we’ll start by maximizing stability with Polygonal Rifling, Steady Rounds, and a stability masterwork. For the same reason, we’ll go with Slideways, although Firmly Planted is a solid substitute if it fits your playstyle more.
As for the final column, we’ll opt for Target Lock for the increased damage, although Incandescent can prove useful in 6v6 Control if enemies are grouped up.
