Destiny 2 Microcosm: How to get this Top-Tier Exotic

by | Aug 12, 2024

With the launch of The Final Shape, players were able to finally obtain a Heavy Trace Rifle in the form of Microcosm. While early opinions doubted the capabilities of the weapon, it has quickly risen in popularity amongst the community due to synergy with some builds, and also some nice interactions, particularly when dealing with Subjugators.

This article covers all you need to know about Microcosm and how to obtain it.

How to get the Microcosm Exotic

The Microcosm can be obtained through a relatively simple but time-consuming process. Before being able to start the Microcosm quest, players must first complete:

  • The Final Shape Campaign
  • Destined Heroes Quest up until the point of the  ‘Queens, Part 1’ Adventure
  • All four of Micah-10’s Convalescence Quests

Upon completion of the fourth Convalescence quest, players can obtain the quest for Microcosm from Micah-10 in The Pale Heart’s Last City.

The quest involves completing the Co-operative Focus missions, which are variations of the Ascent, Dissent, and Iconoclasm Campaign Missions with some added mechanics. Unfortunately, these mechanics make the weapon unobtainable when playing solo. After completing all three of these missions, Microcosm can be claimed by returning to Micah-10.

How Good is Microcosm

The Microcosm comes equipped with the following perks:

  • Paracausal Imbuement: Final Blows with this weapon grant Super energy. This weapon gains bonus damage once your Super expires.
  • Paracausal Beam: Fires a beam of Kinetic light, dealing massive bonus damage to shields.

The Paracausal Imbuement perk synergizes well with most burst damage supers as the buff granted is actually quite significant, providing a 20% damage buff for 20 seconds after your super ends.

Paracausal Beam is the perk that causes the significant interaction with Subjugators, as their entire health bars seem to be coded as Strand/Stasis shields, meaning the bonus damage is active against their entire health bar.

In terms of PvP, Microcosm isn’t the best due to the lack of burst ability that comes with Heavy Weapons like Grenade Launchers, and with the changes to ammo economy being very rough for Trace Rifles.
