With the overwhelmingly good loot from The Pale Heart, Salvation’s Edge, and ritual playlists, it’s easy to overlook the world drops. Maahes HC4, however, shouldn’t be.
An energy slot competitor to Bold Endings, this weapon has the right rolls to replace the Word of Crota many have latched on to in the wake of the meta shift during Lightfall’s life cycle. Today, we’ll cover all you need to know about Maahes HC4.

How good is the Maahes HC4
Before even going into perks and stats, Maahes is held in high regard for being an arguably good Void Hand Cannon. Many of our options before this were lackluster, with Word of Crota being a flickering light in the darkness. But with Maahes, we finally have one people will enjoy using. The only thing Maahes doesn’t have going for it is the method of acquisition.
In PvP, it has some potential, but the stats on it hold it back quite a bit. Its worst offender, stability, is a base 21, the lowest out of the three bust hand cannons we have. While it does get some help via its origin trait (Omolon Fluid Dynamics), it decreases along with the magazine, so by the 3rd burst, it’s gone. Best to use a more standard hand cannon for PvP.

Maahes HC4 PvE god rolls
PvE Roll: All-Around | |

Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Magazine | Tactical Mag |
Perk 1 | Rapid Hit or Repulsor Brace |
Perk 2 | Frenzy or Destabilizing Rounds |
Masterwork | Stability |
As good as Burst Hand Cannons are, Maahes is a little held back by its stats. Most are insignificant, but the low stability and reload speed leaves a lot to be desired. To that end, throw on Fluted Barrel and Tactical Mag to bump up both of these stats while providing an extra burst to the mag.
Perk 1 has really only two options for PvE, those being Rapid-Hit and Repulsor Brace. Both are solid perks, but Repulsor Brace’s need for a Void debuff limits it ever so slightly. However, thanks to Perk 2 rolling with Destabilizing Rounds, you can run this on whatever subclass you like and maintain its utility. Speaking of Perk 2, there’s a lot to work with here, so go with what the build calls for. Frenzy is always a good neutral choice, and Golden Tricorn now only requires the Super to match; perfect for Prismatic!
Maahes HC4 PvP god rolls
PvP Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Smallbore |
Magazine | Steady Rounds |
Perk 1 | Rapid-Hit or Perpetual Motion |
Perk 2 | Golden Tricorn (also good: Frenzy) |
Masterwork | Range |
Even with Maahes having decent base range, our only hope of bringing the stability up to a satisfactory point is by using Steady Rounds. In doing so, we lose some range, so Smallbore is a perfect choice as it will offset the loss while also providing extra stability. The origin trait will also help here, as it provides a stability bonus until the magazine reaches 50%.
Perk 1 fares not much better in PvP than PvE, but the clear winners are Rapid-Hit and Perpetual Motion. Both provide, you guessed it, stability, but from different sources and in different amounts. Go with your playstyle here. Perk 2’s best in slot is Golden Tricorn. A very easy-to-proc and refreshable damage perk, there’s no reason not to run it. Frenzy is a close second, and you could also go with Disruption Break for some cheeky swap kills, though that’s not for everyone.
How to get Maahes HC4
As a world drop, it is nigh impossible to directly farm for this weapon, as many activities or enemies can drop it, along with all the other active world loot. However, a good place to start are destination activities such as Terminal Overload, Altars of Sorrow, or even Overthrow.
Completing their objectives, along with eliminating the higher-tier enemies, should net a fair amount of drops, though maybe not for the hand cannon in particular. You could also wait for it to show up in the Lost Sector loot pool, though you might be waiting a while if you do.
