While it’s an essential utility Hand Cannon, Kindled Orchid’s place in the final sandbox is niche However, it’s still definitely worth a place in your vault; especially if you haven’t yet obtained Word of Crota.

How good is Kindled Orchid
Kindled Orchid is quite unique, in that it’s the only weapon in the energy slot that can roll Shoot to Loot and Explosive Payload. With that, it definitely warrants its own unique place in your vault, as it’s the best energy slot option for utilising Shoot to Loot. This is probably the main reason to get your hands on it.
Outside of that, though, it does come with the mega-powerful combination of Repulsor Brace and Destabilising Rounds. With that being said, though, it’s majorly outclassed by Word of Crota, which has all of that on offer with a better archetype and origin trait that simply pushes this weapon to niche tier and not a Void powerhouse.
In PvP, it’s severely outclassed inside of competitive by other better 140s like Rose and Better Devils in that it has no great first column perk. Keep Away is fine, but Slideshot is far better in practicality. With that being said, the gun is definitely still serviceable for a 140 in the Crucible; with Magnificent Howl and Kill Clip being great for more casual PvP modes. On top of that, it feels incredible to use. Kindled Orchid is A-Tier for PvE and A-tier for PvP.

Kindled Orchid PvE god roll
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
| Magazine | Ricochet Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Shoot to Loot (also good: Repulsor Brace) |
| Perk 2 | Explosive Payload (also good: Destabilising Rounds) |
| Masterwork | Handling |
For the barrel and magazine, we’re mainly looking for quality of life here. This isn’t too important, but the pure stats provided by Fluted Barrel and Ricochet Rounds round out the stat package for this gun fairly nicely. Plus, the ricochet always helps in hitting for Shoot to Loot.
In the first slot, the main idea here is to be able to take advantage of Shoot to Loot, to be able to pick up ammo bricks and Orbs from afar. This is a great perk for endgame, as it allows you to grab ammunition at a pinch as well as reload your weapons easily; it does take some time to learn how to use, but it’s definitely worth trying to take advantage of where possible. Otherwise, Destabilising Rounds is the perk to go for here, as it provides one half of the classic combo that defines Void weapon rolls.
With Shoot to Loot, Explosive Payload provides the ability to pick up multiple bricks and Orbs in the same area, meaning that you can easily utilise the perk to be able to refill as quickly as possible (while also being a great splash perk).
Kindled Orchid PvP god roll
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Hammer-Forged Rifling |
| Magazine | Accurized Round |
| Perk 1 | Keep Away |
| Perk 2 | Explosive Payload |
| Masterwork | Range |
The range on this weapon is most important, and so you’ll want to max out range in all of your barrel, magazine, and masterwork. With this, it’ll increase your engagement range which will allow Keep Away to do the rest.
In the first perk slot, Keep Away is the only real great perk for PvP. It provides extra range for staying away from enemies, making it great for holding angles in Trials and Competitive. There’s nothing else that you really want in the first slot; Rangefinder would be okay but in practice is generally worse than Keep Away. If you’re in a mode where you can get more kills, Kill Clip can be a workhorse.
In the second column, Explosive Payload is the PvP pick, in that it provides extra damage in PvP as a pretty passive splash perk. With that, there’s not much else that’s super attractive in the second column. Eye of the Storm is passable but provides far less than Explosive Payload. Much like Kill Clip, Magnificent Howl is great in PvP modes with respawning and more players, and is definitely worth considering for more casual players.
