How good is Chronophage
While trace rifles as a whole lost some popularity with the double special nerfs and the introduction of rocket-assisted sidearms, they still play an important part in the PvE meta.
While the weapon doesn’t have any perk combinations that make it meta-defining, Chronophage excels at what it’s supposed to in PvE: general utility and a replacement for typical primary weapons.
In The Crucible, Chronophage is pretty typical. With PvP’s special ammo economy, it generally isn’t worth running a trace rifle, Chronophage included.

Chronophage PvE god rolls
PvE Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Battery | Enhanced Battery |
Perk 1 | Shoot to Loot (also good: Repulsor Brace) |
Perk 2 | One for All (also good: Demolitionist) |
Masterwork | Reload Speed |
We’ll start with Fluted Barrel, Enhanced Battery, and a reload speed masterwork for a solid sweep of increased stats.
From there, Shoot to Loot’s general utility trumps other options in the third column, save for Repulsor Brace if you’re rocking a Void build. The final column features One for All, which is the strongest pick for general gameplay by far. However, Demolitionist and Destabilizing Rounds are worth mentioning if you’re looking for buildcrafting options instead.
Recommended Loadout: The Mountaintop, Chronophage, Microcosm.
Chronophage PvP god rolls
PvE Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Smallbore |
Battery | Tactical Mag |
Perk 1 | Elemental Capacitor |
Perk 2 | High Ground (also good: Desperate Measures) |
Masterwork | Range |
In PvP, our main goal is to simply increase as many stats as we can. As a result, we’ll go with Smallbore, Tactical Mag, Elemental Capacitor, and a range masterwork.
For our final perk in the fourth column, we’ll opt for High Ground, granting an easy (although situational) increase in damage. Desperate Measures can also be used here if you prefer.
