In PvE, the Vikala SMG4 is strong, but doesn’t do enough to make it truly shine above other Void SMGs, let alone SMGs altogether as Kinetic options are very strong. In PvP, while it may be a strong option, it doesn’t do enough to stand above the rest.

How good is Vikala SMG4
Vikala SMG4 is a respectable addition to the SMG lineup, and definitely punches up to some of the big boys. Coming with a fun (albeit niche) origin trait, a wide variety of perks, 900RPM, and a Balanced Heat Weapon archetype, Vikala SMG4 does have rolls that you may want to look out for.
In PvE, Viaka SMG4 shines. With subclass oriented perks such as Destabilizing Rounds and the brand-new Dimensional Shift perk, there’s a lot to love here if you’re wanting a solid Void SMG to complement any Void builds you are running. However, outside of Dimensional Rift, there isn’t too much this SMG necessarily does different, aside from it being a Heat weapon giving it some improved functionality and damage. This being said, the second perk column is absolutely stacked with Attrition Orbs, Destabilizing Rounds, Chaos Reshaped, and Firefly all being top tier options for this weapon.
In PvP, the Vikala SMG4 has some legs. The new Featherweight origin trait, on paper, sounds good for 6v6 lobbies but may fall off in higher-stakes gamemodes, and with Moving Target and Rangefinder available, the Vikala is shaping up to be a nice option for those wanting some fast-paced SMG action. Vikala SMG4 is A-Tier for PvE and A-tier for PvP.

Speed is the name of the game with the Vikala, so we’re opting to make this weapon as snappy as possible with Fluted Barrel and a Handling Masterwork getting us 99 Handling. Tactical Heatsink gives us some Stability, Range, and Vent Speed.
In terms of perks, there’s a whole lot of options, but we like Dimensional Shift and Enlightneded Action column one. Dimensional Shift is similar to Repulsor Brace, letting you chain a stronger overshield back to back, provided you’ve picked up a Void Breach recently. Enlightened Action on the other hand is a bit more multi-purpose, fitting plenty of scenarios. For perk 2, there is a whole host of options, but the 3 we are choosing are Destabilizing Rounds, Chaos Reshaped, and Attrition Orbs. Destabilizing Rounds is a great pairing with any Void setup and is also strong on its own. Chaos Reshaped is generally great, and Attrition Orbs is a solid utility pick, but maybe slightly weaker than the other options.

The Vikala SMG4 has two main paths you can go down, and it depends on whether you can handle the unsteadiness of the weapon. Smallbore is a great general option, giving much-needed Range and Stability; however, for the Magazine and Masterwork, it really comes down to whether you want more Range or Stability. Give the weapon a try and see how it feels!
For perks, we suggest one of Moving Target, Perpetual Motion, or Slideways. Each of these is absolutely viable, but Moving Target and Perpetual Motion are likely active more often than Slideways, but the added Stability and Handling could be favoured by many. For perk 2, it’s a little simpler – Rangefinder is the only realistic option. If you are super aggressive, then Chaos Reshaped is theoretically usable, but 99/100 Rangefinder will be the more straightforward and consistently effective option.
