How good is Trachinus
Rapid-Fire Slugs are a brand new frame, so the best thing we can compare them to is the Precision Slug frame. While the damage per shot is slightly lower, the higher rate of fire mixed with the larger ammo reserves allows you to fire for much longer than normal. Plus, tacking on Assault Mag ramps up the fire rate a good bit, allowing you to eke out just a bit more damage.
In PvP, this could be better, but unfortunately, the perks don’t let it shine all too well. Still, Killing Wind and Encore netting a crazy range buff is nothing to sniff at. Trachinus is B-Tier for PvE and B-Tier for PvP.

Trachinus PvE god rolls
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Arrowhead Break |
| Magazine | Assault Mag |
| Perk 1 | Rapid-Hit or Lead from Gold (also good: Rimestealer) |
| Perk 2 | Precision Instrument or Chill Clip (also good: Headstone) |
| Masterwork | Handling |
| Origin Trait | Veist Stinger |
While Fluted Barrel is the typical pick here, Arrowhead Break offers a similar boost to handling while also knocking our recoil direction to a perfect 100. Throwing on Assault Mag is always good as it ups your DPS ever so slightly.
For Perk 1, it’s hard to deny that Rapid-Hit or Lead from Gold are your best choices. Rapid-Hit will massively increase your DPS potential, and Lead from Gold helps you stay topped off on ammo. Perk 2 has a few more choices, with Precision Instrument and Chill Clip taking the top spots. Precision Instrument goes hand in hand with Rapid-Hit thanks to the same proc condition, and Chill Clip on a shotgun of all things is surely to be a treat. Headstone is a good choice as well as you’ll primarily be aiming for the crit spots with this, and pairs well with Rimestealer.
Trachinus PvP god rolls
| PvP Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Barrel | Hammer-Forged Rifling |
| Magazine | Accurized Rounds |
| Perk 1 | Transcendent Moment (also good: Killing Wind) |
| Perk 2 | Binary Orbit |
| Masterwork | Range |
| Origin Trait | Tenacity |
Like all shotguns, slug shotguns heavily benefit from a range buff, so Hammer-Forged Rifling, Accurized Rounds, and a range Masterwork will be a great start. All together this gets us to a base of 70 range.
Perk 1 has only two PvP options, but that’s not to say they are bad by any means. Killing Wind and Transcendent Moment both buff your range in addition to other stats, but the key difference is in how that is achieved. Killing Wind only activates on the weapon landing the final blow, whereas Transcendent Moment activates on any final blow. This means you can activate it through a primary or ability kill, then swap to it and already have the bonus range. This pairs very well with Binary Orbit, our Perk 2 choice. Since this is a Stasis weapon, you are guaranteed to have this active so long as you land a final blow with your primary before swapping, or an ability if you are using Light-aligned grenades/melees.
