Following the poor reception of The Edge of Fate DLC, a lot is riding on the new Renegades DLC. And perhaps there is hope, in big part thanks to the additon of an entirely new weapon archetype heavily inspired by the Star Wars universe: Blasters!
This guide covers all the new Heat weapons released with the Renegades DLC and shares the best methods to farm them.
What are Blasters in Destiny 2
As explained by Bungie, Blasters (aka, Heat Weapons) have Heatsinks in place of magazines. This allows them to fire their ammo directly from reserves while generating heat with each shot. They can be manually vented to dissipate heat at will, but be careful, as overheating will force a sustained vent before you can fire again.
Top Tier Blasters for PvE & PvP
These are all the Heat weapons currently available in Destiny 2 (those from Equilibrium are not yet available):
| Weapon | Tier Rank | Source ❘ DLC | Verdict | Archetype | Ammo | Element |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() Uncivil Discourse Hand Cannon | ❘ S Excels in: PvE | Lawless Destination Renegades | Slot: PvE God Roll: Air Trigger (also good: Cooling Baubles) + Precision Instrument (also good: Frenzy ) ► In PvE, Uncivil Discourse has flown straight into the high-end of the meta with excellent damage potential when taking on the toughest opponents. It takes this power into PvP too, lethal at range and feels very smooth in play when pushing for the win. | Dynamic Heat Weapon | ||
![]() Compact Defender Sidearm | ❘ S Excels in: PvE | Lawless Destination Renegades | Slot: PvE God Roll: Destabilizing Rounds (also good: Cooling Baubles) + Thermal Atomization or Desperate Measures (also good: Repulsor Brace) ► Held back only by the rather high heat per shot, the Compact Defender is a devastatingly effective weapon in such a small package. Sporting Destabilizing Rounds in Column 3, this is a Void and/or sidearm user's dream come true. | Dynamic Heat Weapon | ||
![]() All or Nothing Pulse Rifle | ❘ A Excels in: PvE + PvP | Lawless Destination Renegades | Slot: PvE God Roll: Firefly + Tear (also good: Thermal Atomization) PvP God Roll: Keep Away or Zen Moment + Headseeker or Kill Clip ► All or Nothing is a great addition to the sandbox in both PvE and PvP. Not only are its god rolls solid to use, but the potential in its various perks to suit builds or lean into its Strand element makes it a very interesting prospect for its potential user. | Dynamic Heat Weapon | ||
![]() M-17 Fast Talker Submachine Gun | ❘ A Excels in: PvE + PvP | Lawless Destination Renegades | Slot: PvE God Roll: Attrition Orbs (also good: Demolitionist) + Master of Arms (also good: Crystalline Corpsebloom) PvP God Roll: Delicate Tuning (also good: Dynamic Sway Reduction) + Target Lock (also good: Tap the Trigger) ► A great weapon and a solid all-rounder for both PvE and PvP. Takes advantage of the new Balanced Heat Weapon archetype, which only enhances its power further and helps set it apart from the rest. A must-have new weapon for a Guardian's arsenal. | Balanced Heat Weapon | ||
![]() Modified B-7 Pistol Hand Cannon | ❘ A Excels in: PvE | Lawless Destination Renegades | Slot: PvE God Roll: Rimestealer or Firefly + Headstone or Crystalline Corpsebloom ► While it might not stack up in PvP like its contemporaries, the Modified B-7 Pistol is a blast to use in PvE, thanks in no small part to the double AoE roll on there that turns any room into an explosion fest. | Dynamic Heat Weapon |
There are two archetypes of Heat Weapons:
- Dynamic: Higher base damage. High heat generated. The weapon cools down more rapidly between shots.
- Balanced: Very low heat generated. Manually venting at very high heat greatly increases venting speed.
