Released with the Renegades DLC, Eighty-Six is a
Strand Vortex Sword that can be farmed by participating in Pinnacle Ops activities. Eighty-Six has quite the leg up over its older brother, Thin Precipice, in a number of ways. This guide covers its place in the current Meta, top rolls for PvE and PvP, and how to farm it.

How good is Eighty-Six
Admittedly, heavy swords aren’t the most meta damage weapon choice at the moment. Most of the bosses we face are simply not close enough to warrant their use, but historically, these spin-to-win swords have been a staple of the damage meta. Eighty-Six is shaping up to be no different, with it landing the coveted Elemental Honing perk.
This is far more effective than Bait and Switch on swords due to the much longer uptime, and with it also getting Relentless Strikes, it’s safe to say that if and when swords are back in rotation, Eighty-Six will be a breakout star. Eighty-Six is B-Tier for PvE and D-tier for PvP.

Eighty-Six PvE god rolls
| PvE Roll: All-Around | |
|---|---|
| Blade | Jagged Edge |
| Guard | Swordmaster’s Guard |
| Perk 1 | Relentless Strikes (also good: Tireless Blade) |
| Perk 2 | Elemental Honing (also good: Redirection) |
| Masterwork | Impact |
| Origin Trait | Bray Legacy |
As with pretty much every sword ever, we’re going Jagged Edge and Swordmaster’s Guard for our blade and guard. These have proven their worth time and time again on swords, especially with heavy attacks requiring sword energy.
Perk 1 will be none other than Relentless Strikes, with Tireless Blade as an alternative, off-meta choice. Both return ammo to the sword, but Relentless remains king in that department during damage phases. Pair it with the recommended Perk 2 choice of Elemental Honing, and you’ll have a solid DPS sword. Tireless, on the other hand, is meant to pair with the alternative Perk 2 choice: Redirection. These two can allow for a rather interesting loop whereby you build stacks by clearing ads and then use them to slice through tougher foes like it’s nothing, during which you’ll refund ammo after every other kill.
Eighty-Six PvP god rolls
With a weak archetype for PvP and no redeeming perks, this weapon is not worth chasing to take into the Crucible.
How to get the Eighty-Six
Eighty-Six can be earned via Portal or Lawless Frontier activities, typically as an end-of-match reward. However, keep a sharp eye out for Zavala as his Weekly Vanguard Shipments could contain one in the future, possibly with a guaranteed god roll! We cover all Portal Weapons here.
