Destiny 2 Patron of Lost Causes: God Rolls & How to get it

by | Aug 28, 2024

One of a few Dawn weapons to make the cut, Patron of Lost Causes has returned with a refreshed perk pool that, while uninspiring, is solid nonetheless for a scout rifle. This guide will go over everything you need to know about this Lightweight Scout Rifle.

How good is the Patron of Lost Causes?

Patron of Lost Causes is nothing special, but that doesn’t make it bad per se. The perks it rolls with are nothing new for scout rifles, but the gun itself feels so good that the perks are just icing on the cake. The old standby of Rapid-Hit and Explosive Payload is still there, but we now also have Kinetic Tremors and Precision Instrument in column 4, both equally powerful in their own right. Column 3 now gets Triple Tap and Stats-For-All, letting you take more advantage of the new column 4 perks.

For PvP, Lightweight Scout Rifles aren’t the most competitive, but the perks and stats here let it fare better than most. It can dish out some decent flinch thanks to Explosive Payload, and To the Pain has a near-constant uptime, allowing for better accuracy during fights. It also gives you a noticeable strafe speed increase, letting you take some cheeky peek shots.

A-tier for PvE C-tier for PvP

Patron of Lost Causes PvE god roll

PvE Roll: All-Around
Barrel Polygonal Rifling
Magazine Tactical Mag
Perk 1 Rapid-Hit or Triple Tap
Perk 2 Explosive Payload or Kinetic Tremors
Masterwork Reload Speed

As Patron is a Lightweight frame, its handling is naturally high, so there’s no need to bump it any further. We’ll be using Polygonal Rifling as it gives the highest Stability bump without hurting anything else, and Flared Magwell gives us a little more, as well as a reload speed increase. A Reload Speed Masterwork is perfect here, especially when paired with the perks.

For Perk 1, you’ll really want either Rapid-Hit or Triple Tap. Rapid-Hit might not return ammo like Triple Tap does, but the tradeoff for that is increased stability and reload speed. Triple Tap is better if the season has Anti-Barrier Scouts, in our opinion. Perk 2 has a wider selection of PvE perks, but Explosive Payload and Kinetic Tremors are best in slot. Both are free damage perks, but Explosive ranks above Kinetic simply because it is active each shot. However, Kinetic has its place in taking down groups of larger ads and special ammo is scarce.

Patron of Lost Causes PvP god roll

PvP Roll: All-Around
Barrel Arrowhead Break
Magazine Accurized Rounds
Perk 1 Rapid-Hit or To the Pain
Perk 2 Explosive Payload or Precision Instrument
Masterwork Range or Stability

As previously mentioned, Lightweight Scout Rifles aren’t largely thought of as competitive, suffering from a slow TTK and lackluster target acquisition. To remedy what we can, we’ll throw on Arrowhead Break for a sizable boost to recoil direction that when paired with Counterbalance Stock, gives a perfect 100 to the stat. For the magazine, Accurized Rounds is our choice as Ricochet Rounds is not available here, and Range or Stability for the Masterwork, whatever feels best.

Perk 1 is just as lacking for PvP as it is for PvE, but Rapid-Hit and To the Pain are very solid regardless. Rapid-Hit will help keep follow-up shots on target with the Stability bonus it gives, and To the Pain is a higher uptime version of Eye of the Storm, granting increased Handling and Aim Assist for each stack, up to 10 max. Perk 2 is going to be either Explosive Payload for its flinch or Precision Instrument to provide some forgiveness in gunfights.
