Destiny 2 Vexcalibur: God Rolls, Catalyst & How to get it

by | Aug 28, 2024

Glaives have always been in a strange spot within the meta, with many Guardians choosing to opt for nearly any other type of special weapon instead.

Luckily, many glaives have begun challenging what’s expected from this type of weapon. One example of this is Vexcalibur, a craftable exotic glaive that comes from the NODE.OVRD.AVALON mission.

How good is Vexcalibur?

Like most other glaives in Destiny 2, Vexcalibur doesn’t do anything meta-defining. Even so, it has more synergy with builds and subclasses compared to the average weapon, making it occasionally worth the exotic slot it takes up.

In PvE, Vexcalibur primarily synergizes with builds with the Void Overshield buff at their center. Because of this, the weapon sees most of its use with Void Titans, but can realistically be utilized on all three classes if you purposefully build around it.

Vexcalibur is equally underwhelming in The Crucible. While it may be slightly better than your average glaive, there’s really no reason to run this over any other special weapon. As a result, Vexcalibur is B-Tier in both PvE and PvP.

Vexcalibur Crafted God Rolls & Perk Pool

The crafted Vexcalibur exotic glaive can roll with the following perks:

  • Stock: Hand-Laid Stock, Composite Stock, Fitted Stock, Short-Action Stock
  • Catalyst Trait: Immovable Retrofit, Robber Retrofit, Feedback Retrofit

Vexcalibur PvE God rolls

  • Haft: Auxiliary Reserves
  • Magazine: Light Mag
  • Stock: Short-Action Stock
  • Catalyst Trait: Feedback Retrofit or Robber Retrofit

For PvE, we’ll start with Auxiliary Reserves to increase shield duration at the cost of reload speed. Light Mag works to directly combat that reload speed decrease, in addition to providing some increased range as well.

The only stock that makes sense to use for Vexcalibur is Short-Action since glaives don’t have a stability stat. As for your catalyst perk, it’s a toss-up between Feedback and Robber Retrofit. The former is great at tanking enemy shots in high-level activities, but the latter excels more when it comes to more casual content.

Vexcalibur PvP God rolls

  • Haft: Auxiliary Reserves
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Stock: Short-Action Stock
  • Catalyst Trait: Feedback Retrofit

Our roll for The Crucible looks almost identical to the one for PvE. We’ll once again opt for Auxiliary Reserves and Short-Action Stock, granting both handling and increased shield duration. However, we’ll opt for Accurized Rounds instead of Light Mag to get even more bonus range.

The clear choice for the catalyst perk here is Feedback Retrofit, allowing you to avoid reloading altogether (which, while that typically isn’t a problem for special weapons in The Crucible, the other two options here don’t offer much either).

How to get Vexcalibur

Previously part of the Season of Defiance (S20) loot pool, the Vexcalibur can be acquired from the Avalon Exotic Mission. Available every few weeks as part of the Exotic Mission Rotator, Avalon’s rewards drop as follows:

  • The first completion of the mission on Standard or Expert difficulty will award the Exotic Deepsight (craftable) Vexcalibur.
  • Each weekly completion of the Exotic mission (any difficulty) will award an intrinsic upgrade to be used when crafting Vexcalibur.

🛑 Vexcalibur requires ownership of the Lightfall DLC.

How to get the Vexcalibur Catalysts

The Vexcalibur catalysts come from completing the Avalon exotic mission on Expert difficulty. Every completion unlocks an additional Retrofit (Catalyst trait) for the weapon’s crafted variant. There are three catalysts available for Vexcalibur, meaning you’ll need to complete Expert three times to unlock all of them:

  • Immovable Retrofit: Dealing ranged damage grants increased weapon energy while you’re stationary with your shield raised.
  • Robber Retrofit: Melee final blows or dealing damage with a charged melee reloads this weapon’s magazine from reserves.
  • Feedback Retrofit: Blocking damage partially reloads this weapon from reserves.

Once unlocked, you can craft one Catalyst at a time through the Enclave on Mars.
