The Heirloom Combat Exotic bow is kind of a big deal. Not only is it the new dungeon Exotic, but it also happens to be the first Special ammo crossbow in Destiny 2. Yet few raid/dungeon Exotics end up rising to the top of the meta. One could argue that most are disappointing. What will it be with the Heirloom? Today, we cover how powerful this Exotic crossbow is and tell you exactly how to get both the weapon and its catalyst.

How to get Heirloom
As officially confirmed by Bungie, the Heirloom Exotic Crossbow is a guaranteed reward during Equilibrium’s Contest Mode:
In addition to the dungeon’s new loot, completing Equilibrium during Contest Mode offers special rewards. Defeat all encounters of the dungeon before the mode ends to claim the Heirloom Exotic weapon and Dredgen’s Descent emblem.
Otherwise, expect it to drop randomly after beating the final boss. You can find the entire Equilibrium Dungeon Loot Table here.

Heirloom, New Dungeon Exotic
How to get the Heirloom Catalyst
This part remains a mystery. If the previous dungeon Exotic is of any indication (the Finality’s Auger), then expect this catalyst to require the completion of an elaborate puzzle within the Equilibrium dungeon. In any case, we’ll update this section as soon as the catalyt’s source is revealed. What we do know is what it does. The Heirloom Catalyst features the following trait:
- Direct hits with charged shots scorch the target. This weapon deals more damage against scorched targets.
How good is Heirloom?
Heirloom features the following Exotic Traits:
- Big Game Hunter: Aim down sights for a period of time to overcharge the next bolt fired. Increases damage and area of effect for each charge level.
- Bolt Thrower: This weapon fires high-powered explosive bolts. Strong against Unstoppable Champions.
Heirloom is unfortunately not the strongest of weapons. While it is definitely fun and packs a punch for a single shot, this single shot doesn’t deal nearly enough damage to make Heirloom worth using in most cases.
