Destiny 2 VS Velocity Baton: God Rolls & How to get it

by | Oct 12, 2024

Perhaps the most anticipated part of every Destiny 2 release is new raids and dungeons. Along with them, however, typically comes with some of the best loot the game has to offer.

Today, we’ll cover one of the new weapons coming from the Vesper’s Host dungeon: VS Velocity Baton.

Chapters

How good is VS Velocity Baton

VS Velocity Baton is a part of the new area denial family of grenade launchers, which only had one previous installment—Lost Signal. While that one was released with very little attention surrounding it, VS Velocity Baton seems like it could hold up a lot better.

In PvE, VS Velocity Baton has some interesting picks in both columns. While none of them are bound to make for a meta pick, there’s definitely some room for this weapon to shine in the current sandbox.

Area denial grenade launchers as a whole aren’t really used much in The Crucible, but VS Velocity Baton has a perk or two that could prove useful. Even so, if you’re looking for a weapon of this type to use in PvP, fully committing to Witherhoard is the play. VS Velocity Baton is B-Tier in PvE and C-Tier in PvP.

VS Velocity Baton PvE god rolls

PvE Roll: All-Around
Barrel Quick Launch
Magazine High-Velocity Rounds
Perk 1 Demolitionist or Unrelenting
Perk 2 Attrition Orbs or Destabilizing Rounds
Masterwork Velocity or Handling

We’ll begin by looking for high-velocity and handling stats through Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and either a velocity or handling masterwork.

There are two ways you can shape this weapon for PvE: for builds or for general gameplay. If you’re interested in the former, Demolitionist and Destabilizing Rounds or Repulsor Brace are your best picks. However, VS Velocity Baton’s general roll is arguably more potent. Unrelenting offers significant health regeneration while you’re clearing waves of enemies, while Attrition Orbs is absolutely insane on this weapon. Because the perk is hit-based and area denial frames feature hefty damage over time, using this perk results in an orb-generating machine.

VS Velocity Baton PvP god rolls

PvP Roll: All-Around
Barrel Quick Launch
Magazine High-Velocity Rounds
Perk 1 Slickdraw
Perk 2 Harmony
Masterwork Velocity

For The Crucible, we’ll start with the same base as we used for our PvE roll: Quick Launch, High-Velocity Rounds, and a velocity masterwork.

VS Velocity Baton’s main two perk columns really don’t feature much for PvP. Slickdraw is best for column one since target acquisition doesn’t matter much if you’re spraying this weapon on the ground. As for the final perk, everything in this column doesn’t succeed well in The Crucible. Regardless, we’ll choose Harmony for some extra damage, provided you play into it properly.

How to get VS Velocity Baton

VS Velocity Baton is one of four legendary weapons from the new Vesper’s Host dungeon. As with all raids and dungeons, the activity features a loot table that restricts what items you can obtain from each encounter.

If you’re looking for VS Velocity Baton specifically, you’ll find it dropping from the first and third encounters of the dungeon, as well as secret chests after obtaining it once. We cover the entire Vesper’s Host Loot Table here.
