Destiny 2 Salvation’s Grip + Catalyst: How to get them

by | Oct 10, 2024

It’s official. Salvation’s Grip, unofficially the worst Exotic in the entire game, just got a Catalyst with the release of Episode 2: Revenant. But is the Exotic Catalyst (and the current Stasis Meta) enough to save Salvation’s Grip?

How to get the Salvation’s Grip Catalyst

The catalyst for Salvation’s Grip comes from ritual activities—Gambit matches, Crucible matches, and Vanguard Ops. It’s a completely random drop that you’ll have a chance at when completing any of these activities, but you should get it to drop soon enough with some time dedicated to the cause. The catalyst adds the following stats and perks:

  • Rimestealer: Destroying a Stasis crystal or defeating a frozen target with this weapon grants you Frost Armor.

Upon completing the quest, you’ll need to get 400 kills with Salvation’s  Grip to upgrade it. As is usual with objectives like this, the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish raid is the go-to spot for farming.

How to get the Salvation’s Grip Exotic

Salvation’s Grip comes from “The Stasis Prototype” exotic quest, which is a part of the Beyond Light DLC. After completing Beyond Light’s campaign, you can visit the Drifter to grab the quest. This excellent video from Datto covers exactly how to complete The Stasis Prototype quest.

How good is Salvation’s Grip?

Salvation’s Grip features the following exotic perks:

  • Cryocannon: This weapon’s charged projectiles create a pattern of Stasis crystals on impact and freeze nearby targets.
  • Shatter Shot: This weapon’s uncharged projectiles deal bonus damage to Stasis crystals and frozen targets. Rapidly destroying multiple Stasis crystals reloads this weapon from reserves.

For the longest time, Salvation’s Grip was truly an awful weapon. Unlike some Exotics that at least offer a compelling gimmick, Salvation’s Grip had nothing going for it.

A minor rework enabled Salvation’s Grip to function like a proper GL when uncharged, making it slightly better than it used to be. Despite the change, it remained a joke of an Exotic. With its catalyst and the ability to give yourself Frost Armor on demand, the weapon is slightly more compelling. And who knows, it could be viable when dealing with ads. We will be testing this weapon some more, but don’t expect much…
