Destiny 2 Hierarchy of Needs + Catalyst: How to get them

by | Mar 8, 2024

Hierarchy of Needs is a Solar Exotic bow that can only drop when defeating the Spire of the Watcher’s final boss. This Combat bow is not only unique, but it’s also considered a solid Exotic Primary for Boss damage.

Today, we cover how powerful this Exotic bow is and tell you exactly how to get both the weapon and its catalyst.

How to get the Hierarchy of Needs Catalyst

The Hierarchy of Needs Catalyst can be acquired by clearing the Spire of the Watcher dungeon on Master difficulty.

The Catalyst grants the following Exotic Trait:

  • Emergency Scramble: Deploying a Guidance Ring or striking a target with a seeking projectile improves draw time and reload speed for a moderate duration (effect lasts about 5 seconds).

Once acquired, you’ll need 500 weapon kills to unlock it. Using typical farming methods such as Shuro Chi or the opening section of Grasp of Avarice will speed things along.

How to get the Hierarchy of Needs

Hierarchy of Needs can only drop when completing the Spire of the Watcher dungeon. Spire is one of the longest dungeons but if you’re willing to put in the time, you shouldn’t have too much trouble farming this dungeon until you finally get your hands on the weapon. You can find the entire Spire of the Watcher loot table here.

Hierarchy of Needs drop rate

The drop rate for Hierarchy of Needs is estimated at roughly 5%, based on community-driven data. Note that actual drop rates are unknown, as Bungie has never shared that information.

Albeit drop rates for Raid and Dungeon exotics are abysmally low, completing Triumphs will increase dungeon exotic drop rates. In this case:

Triumph Rate Boost
Lore Collectibles Triumph +1
Master Mode Completion +1
Full Flawless Clear +1
Full Solo Clear +1
Full Solo Flawless Clear +2

Can you farm the Hierarchy of Needs?

You can absolutely farm the Hierarchy of Needs, but only when the Spire of the Watcher dungeon is the weekly featured dungeonThis is the case for all dungeon Exotics, except for the latest released dungeon, which is not part of the weekly rotation.

By the way, whenever Spire of the Watcher is the featured dungeon, you can farm all of its Legendary weapons and armor at will.

How good is the Hierarchy of Needs Dungeon Exotic?

The Hierarchy of Needs features the following Exotic traits:

  • Guidance Ring: Precision hits and final blows build Guidance Ring energy. Arrows fired through a Guidance Ring release seeking projectiles, which do more damage based on distance traveled.
  • Apollonic Tangent: Arrows fired through a Guidance Ring release seeking projectiles, which do more damage based on distance traveled.
    Stats

While it is incredibly unique and can pump out some respectable damage for a primary weapon, Hierarchy of Needs is simply too clunky and too niche, especially when Touch of Malice can accomplish the same goal and more.

When used right, Hierarchy of Needs can get the job done in PvE. But overall, we consider it B-Tier for PvE and C-tier PvP.

    Hi Ric!

Are you sure you have a chance for the bow to drop on each completion of the dungeon (when it’s the featured one)? All others sources I’ve found say one chance only, but it would be super nice if you could indeed farm it!

“Spire is perhaps the shortest and easiest dungeon to date”……
Have you ever played this Dungeon?
It’s widely known as the 2nd most (behind Ghost of the Deep) lengthy/difficult to complete due the crazy amounts of health the bosses have.
You could have looked this up on this very website, but let me do your job for you:
