Exotic weapon catalysts have been a reliable tool Bungie has utilized to buff underperforming weapons. This trend has continued through Episode: Echoes, where a few more catalysts were released to help out some previously underused options.
Today, we’ll be talking about a weapon that recently received a catalyst, bringing it more in line with recent competition: Final Warning.

How to get the Final Warning Catalyst
Final Warning’s catalyst comes from ritual activities—Gambit matches, Crucible matches, and Vanguard Ops. It’s a completely random drop that you’ll have a chance at when completing any of these activities, but you should get it to drop soon enough with some time dedicated to the cause.
The Final Warning catalyst adds the following perk to the weapon:
- String Theory: Hits against marked targets deal increased damage and have a chance to refund ammo to the magazine.
After getting the catalyst to drop from a ritual activity, you’ll need to upgrade it to unlock the perk mentioned above. To do this, all you need to do is get 700 kills with the weapon, which can be easily farmed at the Shuro Chi checkpoint of the Last Wish raid. Of course, if you’re not in the mood to grind these out, equipping the weapon while you play other casual content will upgrade it with time as well.

How to get Final Warning in Destiny 2
Final Warning comes from “The Final Strand” exotic quest, which is a part of the Lightfall DLC. After completing Lightfall’s campaign, you’ll need to fully unlock your Strand subclass at the Pouka Pond to unlock the quest. This includes all the fragments, which cost 100 Strand Meditations each. The best way to farm these is by using your Strand subclass on Neomuna, specifically during Terminal Overload.
Once you fully upgrade your Strand subclass, visit the Pouka Pond once more and you should be offered The Final Strand quest. The quest is short and sweet, requiring you to visit a handful of places on the Neomuna destination before eventually completing a time trial to unlock Final Warning.
How good is the Final Warning
Final Warning comes with the following perks:
- All at Once: Holding down the trigger marks targets within range and loads multiple bullets, which fire in a burst with increased stability on trigger release. Hitting a marked target with a fully charged burst will unravel them.
- Pick Your Poison: While hipfiring, projectiles will track marked targets, dealing increased body shot damage on impact. While aiming, projectiles have greatly increased velocity and deal extra critical hit damage to marked targets.
While the base version of this weapon is pretty lackluster, its catalyst does wonders for it, especially in PvE. The extra damage from the catalyst allows you to deal some pretty solid damage against majors, especially when using it in tandem with a solid special or heavy weapon.
As for The Crucible, Final Warning’s strengths mostly end with its tracking capabilities. While these are no doubt strong, skilled players can easily counter them, making other options more worthwhile if you’re confident with them.
Final Warning is A-Tier in both PvE and PvP.
