Destiny 2 Repulsor Brace: Weapons and Perk guide

by | May 14, 2023

Arguably one of the most underrated perks in the game, Repulsor Brace offers unmatched synergy with Light 3.0 subclasses.

However, you need to base your playstyle around said synergy to see Repulsor Brace’s true potency, meaning that newer players may simply disregard this S-Tier perk. So, how does it work? What weapons can roll with it? And how can it synergize with Void 3.0 subclasses? We’ll cover all that and more down below.

Repulsor Brace weapons in Destiny 2

Similar to other element-based perks, Repulsor Brace can only roll on weapons of one element: Void. While that makes it seem like this trait is rare, new weapons are being added to the game with Repulsor Brace every season. Here’s a valuable list of all weapons currently able to roll with Repulsor Brace:

What does Repulsor Brace do: Hard Figures

The in-game description of this perk is extremely easy to understand but could benefit from some more information:

Defeating a Void-debuffed target grants an overshield.

Diving a little deeper into how the trait works, Repulsor Brace does the following:

  • Triggers after getting a weapon kill against a target affected by Suppression, Weaken, or Volatile.
  • Once triggered, it grants a 45 HP Void Overshield for 8 seconds.

If you level up a weapon enough to craft it with enhanced Repulsor Brace, it does the following:

  • Extends Repulsor Brace’s duration from 8 to 10 seconds.

These precise numbers come from The Destiny Data Compendium.

But what does a Void Overshield do in Destiny 2?

The Void Overshield is one of three main Void buffs available via the Void 3.0 subclass system.

Once gained by Repulsor Brace or other means, this buff will instantly provide you with a 45 HP Overshield on top of your primary health and shields. In PvE, this Overshield also reduces incoming damage by 50%.

Putting that information in terms of Repulsor Brace, the trait can be described as a more synergistic (and outright better) version of the Turnabout perk.

How do you trigger Repulsor Brace, and what synergizes with it?

Triggering Repulsor Brace is as simple as getting a weapon kill against a target affected by Suppression, Weaken, or Volatile. However, it’s crucial to note that your weapon with Repulsor Brace must get the final blow against the combatant. If the final blow is instead taken by a Volatile explosion, a teammate, or an ability, the trait will not trigger.

Because of its intrinsic Void 3.0 synergy, there are countless ways to make Repulsor Brace significantly more potent than it is at base.

Enhanced Repulsor Brace

Available by crafting and leveling up a weapon capable of rolling the perk, enhanced Repulsor Brace increases the timer on the Void Overshield it grants from 8 to 10 seconds. It’s nowhere near the most powerful enhanced trait upgrade, but an extra two seconds of Overshield time can be vital in some situations.

Void 3.0 fragments

Multiple Void subclass fragments can be used in conjunction with Repulsor Brace to gain an even more potent effect. Echo of Instability is a prime example, granting your Void weapons Volatile Rounds for 10 seconds after a grenade kill. This means that after shooting an enemy with your Repulsor Brace weapon, they’ll be primed with a Void debuff, allowing you to utilize the perk efficiently.

Echo of Undermining is another excellent choice, allowing your Void Grenades to weaken targets on hit, priming them for Repulsor Brace.

Exotic Armor

Various Exotic armor pieces in Destiny 2 also pair nicely with Repulsor Brace. The Hunter’s Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk grants Volatile Rounds after emerging from invisibility. With this, you can trigger invisibility via an aspect or fragment, then begin firing your Repulsor Brace weapon to gain a Void Overshield quickly.

Felwinter’s Helm, an underrated Warlock exotic, can also pair well with this trait. This helmet weakens nearby targets after defeating a combatant with a finisher or powered melee ability. From there, defeating these weakened combatants using a weapon equipped with Repulsor Brace can easily grant you an overshield.

As is usual with these guides, we simply can’t cover all the possible synergies in a single article. We highly encourage you to take this a step further and create your own unique pairings and builds with Repulsor Brace! Because it’s so vague, it’s fun to build around while not requiring much effort.

Before you go…

New ways to increase Repulsor Brace’s potency and synergy with Void builds are always coming. As always, we encourage you to take this perk a step further and make it your own! And just as Incandescent is a top-tier Solar perk, definitely check out Voltshot, its Arc counterpart.
