Destiny 2 Ace of Spades + Catalyst: How to get them

by | Mar 8, 2024

Ace of Spades is an Exotic hand cannon that has been around since the Forsaken era. In spite of being several years old now, this hand cannon remains one of the best Exotic Primary weapons out there, especially for PvP.

Today, we discuss how powerful this Exotic is and tell you exactly how to obtain both the weapon and its catalyst.

How to get the Ace of Spades Catalyst

The Ace of Spades catalyst can drop from either “Kills or completions in Strikes & Nightfalls.”

The Catalyst grants the following Exotic Trait:

  • Funeral Pyre: Firefly does more damage while Memento Mori is active.

Once acquired, you’ll need 500 weapon kills to unlock the Catalyst. Using typical farming methods such as Shuro Chi or the opening section of Grasp of Avarice will speed things along. However, simply using the weapon in day-to-day content will get the catalyst done in a reasonable timeframe.

How to get Ace of Spades

Ace of Spades used to be part of a long quest chain that was sadly removed from the game when the Destiny Content Vault was created. These days, Ace of Spades can be purchased at the Monument to Lost Lights, located at the Tower, right next to the Vault. It currently costs:

  • 1 Exotic Cipher
  • 125,000 Glimmer
  • 1 Ascendant Shards

How good is Ace of Spades?

Arguably the best 140 RPM hand cannon in the game, Ace of Spades has a lot to offer. With excellent base stats and some of the best perks around, namely Momento Mori, which is like Kill Clip on steroids and the ability to see your radar while zoomed in, this weapon has a bit of everything.

Ace of Spades’ exotic traits are the following:

  • Memento Mori: Reloading after a kill loads magazine with a few extra-damage bullets. Grants radar while aiming down sights.
  • Firefly: Precision kills with this weapon increase reload speed and cause the target to explode, dealing Solar damage to nearby enemies.

You can see how Ace of Spades performs compared to other weapons in terms of DPS and TTK here.

Overall, we consider Ace of Spades to be A-Tier for PvE and S-Tier for PvP.
