With Iron Banner back for Episode: Heresy, much of the community is focused on all of the refreshed loot the mode is offering. Some old loot, however, is definitely worth taking a look at due to some perk buffs.
Today, we’ll take a look at one of these weapons that’s been extremely under the radar: Claws of the Wolf.

How good is Claws of the Wolf
Despite its perk pool not changing since The Final Shape’s release, Claws of the Wolf has become a lot stronger with Heresy.
This newfound strength is primarily in PvE, where Destabilizing Rounds has quickly solidified itself as an S-Tier option. Add Repulsor Brace in the other column, and you have yourself a self-contained Void machine.
Claws of the Wolf also excels in The Crucible, although not as much as it does in PvE. With a host of both damage and consistency perks, this pulse is a great pick for all Guardians wanting a long-range option. Claws of the Wolf is S-Tier for PvE and A-tier for PvP.

---|---|
Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Magazine | Flared Magwell |
Perk 1 | Repulsor Brace |
Perk 2 | Destabilizing Rounds |
Masterwork | Reload Speed |
Starting with our PvE roll, we’ll go with Fluted Barrel, Flared Magwell, and a reload speed masterwork for a nice sweep of stats.
From there, Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds is the clear winner in terms of perk combinations. Most other perks here are PvP-oriented, so a Void-centric setup is the only viable way to run this pulse.
Claws of the Wolf PvP god rolls
PvP Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Hammer-Forged Rifling |
Magazine | Ricochet Rounds |
Perk 1 | Headseeker |
Perk 2 | Kill Clip (also good: Zen Moment) |
Masterwork | Range or Stability |
Hammer-Forged Rifling and Ricochet Rounds grant us tons of extra range and stability, both of which are needed for The Crucible. We’ll top these off with either a range or stability masterwork—whichever you prefer.
Our main perks consist of Headseeker and Kill Clip, significantly decreasing the time-to-kill if you’re able to chain kills. Zen Moment also does alright here, excelling if you want a more consistency-based setup.
How to get Claws of the Wolf
Claws of the Wolf drops from Iron Banner. Much like other Iron Banner weapons, you’ll need to unlock it in the vendor upgrade path before you can focus it, but it can drop from matches prior to that.
