After what has felt like eons of waiting, Episode: Revenant is here. With it comes the usual slew of new story missions, weapons, artifact perks, and armor. However, as is typical with Destiny 2 releases, most of the community’s eyes are fixed on one thing for now: new exotics.
Today, we’ll cover the season pass exotic weapon featured in Episode: Revenant. Named Alethonym, this primary ammo grenade launcher fills a support role that’s been rarely seen in Destiny’s sandbox thus far. Let’s dive into what this exotic offers.

How to get the Alethonym Catalyst
Alethonym’s catalyst is available through Episode: Revenant’s season pass. After reaching Rank 145 (which is time-gated until Act Two releases on 11/19), it will be available directly from the season pass screen.
The catalyst adds the following perk to the weapon:
- One for All: Hitting three separate targets increases damage for a moderate duration.
To fully upgrade the catalyst and unlock the perk mentioned above, you’ll need to get 500 kills with Alethonym. The Shuro Chi checkpoint in Last Wish is always the quickest spot to grind these out, but playing with the weapon casually will upgrade it soon enough as well.
How to get Alethonym
Alethonym is the featured exotic weapon in Episode: Revenant’s season pass. You’ll be able to claim it instantly if you purchase the episode. Alternatively, you can obtain the weapon without purchasing Revenant by leveling your season pass up to Rank 40.
How good is Alethonym?
Alethonym comes with the following perks:
- Harvester Spike: This weapon fires a Harvester Spike projectile. Dealing final blows with this weapon creates a single Vestige at the target’s location. Impaling more powerful combatants with the projectile creates a steady stream of Vestiges from the target.
- Vestigial Alchemy: This weapon gains energy when picking up Vestiges. Hold reload with at least 50% energy to cause your next projectile to create ammo bricks for you and your allies on impact. Special bricks are created at 50% energy while Heavy bricks are created at 100% energy.
This weapon plays heavily into the role of ammo support for you and your allies. While previous exotic armor (Aeon Cult exotics and Warlock’s Cenotaph Mask, to name a few) tried to satisfy this role, Alethonym is the first weapon to try its hand at the idea.
Alethonym is also the second primary ammo grenade launcher, making it relatively unique. While this does mean that the weapon doesn’t compare to the damage of standard special ammo options, Alethonym has a different power fantasy (also, its catalyst greatly helps with this deficit!). In general, Alethonym is a solid pick for those who want to take up a support role while not completely sacrificing damage.
In PvP, Alethonym will likely attract the same crowd as Fighting Lion and nothing more. Its unique perks aren’t too potent in The Crucible, meaning its primary draw is that it doesn’t rely on special ammo. Alethonym is A-Tier in PvE and B-Tier in PvP.
