The Gryphon Combat Sparrow is now available. As announced in this week’s TWID, the special PvP event was released today, May 9, 2025, as part of the Heavy Metal event.
The first of its kind, the Gryphon allows you to “ride, shoot, look incredibly cool. Just remember to drive responsibly.”

How to get the Gryphon
The Gryphon is one of the rewards found in the new Event Homes, a system that replaces the unpopular Event Cards from previous events. As described by Bungie:
Event Homes bring daily and weekly challenges, unique rewards in their Event Track, and new currencies to unlock even more rewards.
Heavy Metal features 15 ranks available to all players, each with its own reward, like a weapon, an emblem, or enhancement materials. To access it, simply head over to your Quest tab while Heavy Metal is active (from today until May 16, 2025).
The Gryphon is the final reward of the event, requiring you to reach Rank 15. To get as much Event XP and reach Rank 15 as soon as possible, you should:
- Complete the Daily Challenges (each rewarding XP+)
- Complete the Weekly Challenge (rewarding XP++)
- Participate in the Heavy Metal Playlist as much as possible (quest objectives and wins should reward extra XP)

What is Heavy Metal?
Heavy Metal is a new PVP game mode that pits Drake Tanks versus Fallen Brigs. The rules are the following:
- Destroy an opposing vehicle to score 1 point, and collect the Coin they drop to score an additional 1 point.
- Collect Coins to replenish health and secondary weapon ammo.
- The current leader of the match glows and has improved Dodge; defeat them and collect the Gold Coin they drop to score 2 points.
- The first team to score 50 points wins!
What is Event Homes?
Heavy Metal marks the release of Event Homes. In a nutshell, Event Homes is a page to quick-launch into event activities and visit Eva Levante, the titular Destiny 2 events vendor. It features:
- Daily challenges that rotate at reset time
- One weekly challenge
- The event Title with the associated event Triumphs
- A brand new reward shop (all freeà
- And more!
Bungie assures us Event Homes will be more rewarding than Event Cards, even the premium Event Cards that required a purchase… I guess we’ll see in a few hours…
