How to get Bright Dust in Destiny 2: Schedule Season 22

by | Sep 18, 2023

Bright Dust is one of the most sought-after resources in Destiny 2. as it can be used to purchase sexy Eververse items without having to spend a dime. Unlike Silver, which can only be purchased with real money, Bright Dust can be earned while playing the game.

That said, Bright Dust remains a rare resource that can only be earned in very limited quantities per week. Today we cover all the Bright Dust sources in 2023, beginner tips to farm it, and more.

Bright Dust economy changes

Not so long ago, if you were willing to put in the work, you could technically farm Bright Dust as much as you wanted. But the Bright Dust economy was continuously limited and nerfed, culminating with the drastic changes made by Bungie in Season 13. In a nutshell:

  • The Season Pass offers much more Bright Dust than before
  • Weekly Playlist bounties are gone (these used to be the primary sources of Bright Dust)
    • New “Seasonal Challenges” have taken their place

Bungie’s rationale is that players who only use one character will now earn more Bright Dust per Season. And that is accurate. However, dedicated players who were willing to grind weekly bounties on all three characters were severely punished.

Bright Dust: Principles

These are a few important Bright Dust principles to keep in mind:

  • Bright Dust Cannot Be Purchased: Bright Dust cannot be purchased directly from Eververse Trading Co. and cannot be traded in for Silver or for other in-game currencies.
  • Account Bound: Bright Dust is bound to the account that acquired it and cannot be transferred or gifted. Bright Dust and items purchased with Bright Dust cannot be shared between accounts by platform license-sharing features.
  • Balance Shared Between Characters: The Bright Dust currency is automatically shared between Characters on a Destiny 2 account.

This information comes straight from Bungie and can help you understand the limitations of Bright Dust.

What can you buy with Bright Dust?

Every week, the Eververse will have a limited selection of items requiring Bright Dust for sale. We cover them in detail here.

  • Bright Dust section of the Eververse Homepage
  • The Bright Dust page

Among the several items for sale, you’ll always have an assortment of shaders, consumables, and items. These are, in a nutshell, the different items you can purchase with Bright Dust every week:

Consumables:

These consumable items (i.e. items that can only be used once) are available for sale every week:

  • Concentrated Mattergem – 200 Bright Dust: Bosses have a chance to drop an Upgrade Module when defeated.
  • Glimmershard – 250 Bright Dust: Defeated bosses have a chance to create a shower of Glimmer.

‼️ As Bright Dust is so limited, I recommend staying away from these consumables and saving up for some of the bigger items below.

Legendary Flair items:

The Eververse is also full of “flair” items, which are:

  • Legendary Shaders – 300 Bright Dust: Allows you to change the color of your armor (you’ll need to buy one shader per piece of armor).
  • Transmat Effects – 40 Bright Dust: Changes the appearance of your spawn animation.
  • Ghost Projections  – 40 Bright Dust: Adds a small projection to your Ghost.

‼️ Just as with consumables, I recommend staying away from these items, which are usually very expensive for what they are.

Legendary and Exotic Items:

This is where things get really interesting, and the reason why you should save as much Bright Dust as possible:

Weapon and Armor ornaments:

  • Legendary Armor Ornament – 1,200 Bright Dust:
  • Legendary Weapon Ornament – 700 Bright DustOnce acquired, Legendary weapon ornaments are unlocked on all characters of a player’s account.
  • Exotic Weapon Ornament – 1,250 Bright DustOnce acquired, Exotic weapon ornaments are unlocked on all characters of a player’s account.
  • Legendary Ship – 600 Bright Dust

Ships and Vehicles:

  • Exotic Ship – 2,000 Bright Dust
  • Legendary Sparrow – 600 Bright Dust
  • Exotic Sparrow – 2,500 Bright Dust

Emotes and Ghost Shells:

  • Rare Emote – 400 Bright Dust
  • Legendary Emote – 700 Bright Dust
  • Exotic Emote – 3,350 Bright Dust
  • Legendary Ghost Shells – 250 Bright Dust
  • Exotic Ghost Shells – 2,850 Bright Dust

How you spend your Bright Dust is, of course, up to personal preferences. If you dig collecting transmat and ghost projections, go ahead! But I recommend saving your Bright Dust for more high-end items such as Weapon and Armor ornaments.
