How to use the Destiny 2 Checkpoint Bot

by | Jun 20, 2024

While the number one goal of online gaming is always to have fun, this seems to get complicated for some when entering Destiny 2. Many players struggle to find a balance between sticking to the activities they enjoy while also collecting as much powerful loot as possible.

Luckily, at least in the case of raids and dungeons, the community has created a solution to this. Scattered throughout the internet are bot accounts created for the sole purpose of holding and giving away checkpoints for these activities. Today, we’ll cover how to use these and why they’re so important for maximizing your loot potential. Let’s begin.

Why use Checkpoint Bots?

Utilizing checkpoint bots is an integral step in ensuring that you’re maximizing your loot in the limited hours you play Destiny 2.

All recent raids and dungeons have specific loot tables for each encounter. For instance, unique exotic weapons from these activities will only drop from final bosses, and a specific legendary weapon may only drop from a fraction of the activity’s encounters. As a result, if you’re farming something specific, it doesn’t make sense to waste time in portions of the activity that have no chance of granting the drop you’d like.

This is where checkpoint bots come in. These accounts are designed to AFK (as in remain Away From Keyboard) at specific raid and dungeon encounters 24/7. Joining them allows you to take their copy of the encounter checkpoint you need, allowing you to skip directly to where the loot is.

How do you use D2 Checkpoint Bots?

The most widespread catalog of checkpoint bots in the community is D2Checkpoint. A free-to-use service (although you can send donations to help keep the bots running!), this website offers some of the more popular raid and dungeons checkpoints each week.

Using their service is simple. While in orbit, open the in-game text chat and type “/join CheckpointBot#0000” (replace “0000” with the numbers of the checkpoint bot you’d like to join). If the game sends back an error of any sort, try again—this service is popular, so fireteams quickly fill and empty out consistently.

After you’re in, start the encounter and wipe. Once you’ve respawned, leave the fireteam. Now you have that encounter’s checkpoint, it’s that simple! Do note that checkpoints are character-based (not account) and reset with Tuesday’s weekly reset.
